Wedding Feature: Marc & Kari’s Beautiful Barn Wedding at Stone Tavern Farm
On July 17th, 2021, Marc and Kari tied the knot! Their wedding, which took place at the gorgeous Stone Tavern Farm in Roxbury, NY, was one for the books. Their ceremony took place amongst sweet friends and family, and we got to play our string quartet rendition of “Sweet Disposition” by Temper Trap during Kari’s processional.
Their reception was one raging party that featured a dance-floor teaming with guests at all times. We had an absolute blast and are so grateful to have been a part of it. Now here’s a little more about Kari and Marc, their love story and wedding day memories:
1. Tell us the story of how you two met.
We met early on as students at Duke University. We were close friends throughout school but didn’t start dating until after graduation. We’re one year apart so I had been in the city for a bit over a year and Kari had just graduated.
2. What made you decide that this was the right person to be with for the rest of your life?
Marc’s answer: As I told our wedding officiant – “she’s just so damn cool.”
Kari’s answer: And as I said in our vows, he can always make me laugh—even when I really, really don’t want to
3. Share one special memory from your wedding with us.
Our wedding weekend had dicey weather to say the least, but our guests described this surreal moment to us during the ceremony that felt like a great omen. We got married in a barn with two big open doors on either side of the altar. Apparently right as the ceremony began, guests could see rain and clouds through one of the barn doors, but perfect sunshine and a rainbow through the other.
4. What made you choose Sound Society as your wedding band?
We came to a showcase event in NYC and were instantly sold once Hannah started belting out Lizzo. The energy in the whole bar was amazing and we rushed right up to her as soon as the set was finished to make sure we could lock the band down for our date. From that very first interaction all the way through the final song on wedding night, Hannah was charismatic, warm, flexible and organized. We’re so happy we went with Sound Society and would recommend them to anyone looking for a high energy dance floor!
5. What was your favorite song you danced to at your wedding?
Probably Amy Winehouse’s version of Valerie – that’s another one we heard at the showcase and instantly knew had to be played.
6. How did you choose your first dance song?
We chose the John Mayer version of XO. We’ve been to many John Mayer concerts together and both love his music – XO felt unique as a love song that builds to something upbeat.
7. What changes (if any) did you have to make to your plans due to the pandemic? Do you have any advice or great solutions you found that you would like to share with other couples?
Like many couples in 2020, we rescheduled to 2021. We were originally set for September 19th, 2020 but ultimately chose to go with July 17, 2021 relatively early on in the pandemic. The only advice we have is to communicate early and often with your vendors! We were lucky enough to keep all our original vendors for our reschedule date, mostly because we asked everyone very early on about their availability for backup dates. And lastly, we would tell couples to always remember the real reason you are getting married in the first place—no matter the ups and downs of planning, at the end, you still get to marry your person!
